A small gathering of family and friends came to the BCHS student parking lot Sunday afternoon to welcome home the Bleckley FFA Ag Mechanics Team for winning the 2018 National FFA Agricultural Technology and Mechanical Systems Career Development Event (CDE.)

The team at nationals with their awards L-R: Advisor Dr. Walt Parks, Louie Lumley, Seth DuBois, Jacob Smith and Tucker Felkins.

The team of Tucker Felkins, Louie Lumley, Seth DuBois, Jacob Smith, and Dr. Walt Parks received a sheriff’s escort into town and were greeted with congratulatory hugs and comments upon arrival.

All four team members made perfect scores on the exam portion of the competition. Lumley was third highest overall. DuBois was seventh overall. Smith and Felkins each tied for the 22nd highest score overall. Lumley was highest in Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) and DuBois was highest in Machinery.

This was the second straight nationals win for Bleckley FFA. It was the second time a team from Georgia placed first in Ag Mechanics. The other occasion was a decade ago. It was a Bleckley FFA team led by Kevin Jump. Felkins and Smith were both on last year’s nationals winning forestry team.

Bleckley FFA thanks the community for their support. A special thank you to the individuals and businesses whose financial support made the trip possible.
