For the second consecutive semester, Middle Georgia State University had the second-highest percentage enrollment increase in the University System of Georgia. The announcement came in a release issued Monday.
The spring 2019 enrollment of 7,042 students was a four percent increase from the same time last year according to the USG’s official report issued last week. Only Georgia Tech, who had a spring enrollment increase of 14.6 percent, was higher amongst all 26 University System of Georgia Colleges and Universities. It continues an upward trend that began in summer 2018 when the university posted a 7.4 increase in enrollment from the same time last year.
It’s the second straight semester MGA had the second-highest enrollment increase. In fall of last year, the university had the second-highest increase behind Georgia Tech. MGA President Dr. Christopher Blake credit offering admission to students who enter at different levels of academic readiness as a factor in the university’s growth.
“We are able to offer a wide variety of students the opportunity to achieve a higher education,” Blake said.
“Our doors are open perhaps a bit wider than those at other colleges and universities around the country, and that’s a good thing. Education, after all, is not a zero-sum game, and knowledge is not a capital resource of finite quantity. Learning, rather, has a multiplier effect: as the overall education level in an area increases, so too does the quality of life in that area. As aptly stated by President John F. Kennedy, ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’”
