BCHS looked for their second elite eight berth in three years when they opened round two of the playoffs against Westside-Augusta Thursday afternoon. This was the second matchup between the two schools, the Patriots swept the Royals in a second round series played in Augusta ten years ago.

Matthew Bland sets to throw.

Tied at 3 after three innings in game one, Westside scored one in the top of the fourth and made it stand up to win 4-3. Jack Fernandez went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI. Carson Waters was 2 for 4. Ethan Hulsey went 1 for 2.

With 3-AA Pitcher of the Year Brody Little unable to go due to right arm soreness, Waters got his first career playoff start on the mound in game two. He was staked to a 2-0 lead, but numerous chances to increase it were missed. BC left the bases loaded in the second, stranded a runner at third in the fourth, and couldn’t capitalize with runners at second and third with two outs in the fifth.

Carson Waters tosses to Andrew Thompson covering a bunt.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the sixth, Matthew Bland led off with an infield single. He would score again that same inning on a bases loaded walk. Bleckley sent 11 men to the plate, scoring seven. They added another in the seventh to win 10-3. Waters gave up two earned runs, walked two, and struck out five to get the pitching win.

Brody Little just missed a home run as he slides into third base with a triple. Little homered in game one.

Bland was 1 for 2. Little (who DHed both games) went 2 for 4 with a triple and 1 RBI. Ethan Hulsey went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Steven Knighton was 2 for 5 with an RBI double. Jack Fernandez went 2 for 5 with a double and 1 RBI. Andrew Thompson was 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.

Game three will be Friday afternoon at 5 pm with the winner to face Bremen.
