Track teams from regions one through four in AA converged at Ben Hill County Middle School in Fitzgerald Saturday to earn a berth in next weekend’s state finals. It was a good day for BCHS as five girls and 11 boys events finished in the top eight, earning a qualifying berth.

Girls qualifying for state were: Amiyah Thigpen, Abbi Belflower, pole vault. Juliet Cairney, Sarah Green, 800 meter run. Emily Youngblood, Austin Perez, 1600 meter run. Perez and Christa Hall qualified for the 3200 meter run, first and second place. The girls 4x100 team also qualified.

Boys qualifiers were: Arkenzio Hayes, triple jump. Deandre Pitts, high jump and 400 meter dash. Caden Maxwell and Joseph King, pole vault. Hayes, Bryce Bailey, Marcus Brown, and Nykeem Farrow broke their own school record in the 4x100 meter relay with a new record of 41.72. Farrow and Bailey both qualified in the 100 meter run. Farrow also qualified in the 200 meter run.

Jaylen Thigpen and Garrett Rogers qualified in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Bradley Taylor, 300 meter hurdles. The boys 4x400 team also qualified. State finals will be May 9-11 in Rome.
