Tuesday’s whole board training done by the Bleckley Board of Education was scheduled when the 2019 meeting dates were released. A called meeting was added Monday night.

Training was led by Superintendent Steve Smith on behalf of Georgia Leadership Associates. According to minutes, topics covered were financial management, strategic planning, and student achievement. Smith and Finance Director Ally Rozier went over the tentative FY20 budget. You can view it by going to

A final vote on the budget will taken at the June 11 regularly scheduled meeting. A time of public comment on the budget will be available then as well as at the May 21 meeting.

The biggest news from the executive session was the resignation of Derrick Farrow, effective at the end of this school year. Farrow, an elementary school teacher, has also been a coach in multiple sports. Most notably, he led the BCMS basketball team to a region runner-up, the best finish in school history. Farrow was also an assistant high school football coach as well as assistant track coach for both BCHS and BCMS.
