The region champion BCHS girls golf team and boys region low medalist Ty Cranford were in Carrolton for the GHSA State Tournament April 21-22. For the third straight year, it was conducted under a two-day, 36 hole format. Day one saw the Lady Royals in second place behind Lucy Wiegert’s 80 and Brooke Krieg’s 85. Cranford shot a 79.

On Tuesday, behind Wiegert’s 83 and an 84 by McKinley Cranford, the girls were able to hold off charges from several other schools and finish state runner up for a second straight year with a team score of 333. Wiegert finished tied for fifth, Cranford eighth, Krieg ninth. Cranford shot a 76 Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 15th place.

Head coach Dave Wiegert was extremely proud of everyone. In a statement he said “I am extremely proud of these golfers. They played their hearts out and it shows! These days were long and hot, but it did not stop them from giving their all! To repeat as girls runners-up is special and to have three finish in the top ten is an amazing testament to these young ladies.”

He added, “I am so happy for all them, especially the seniors. I’ve enjoyed working with Brooke and McKinley since middle school and I will truly miss them!” Wiegert also had praise for Cranford and believes the best is yet to come for the sophomore, saying “Ty did great at this tournament. His second round was really fun to watch! He has two more years to keep showing how good of a golfer he really is. Watch for good things from him!”
