BCHS girls golf team members Brooke Krieg and Lucy Wiegert participated in the Cutright-Ploeger Cup June 22-23 at Green Island Country Club in Columbus. Named for golfers Ray Cutrigh and Bob Ploeger, the event features top junior golfers from middle and West Georgia in a Ryder Cup style format. It was started in 2017 after the Georgia State Golf Association revamped their junior program and did away with the sectionals format.

Hosting locations have alternated between Columbus and the Idle Hour Country Club in Macon. Each side had one victory coming on their home course going into this year’s cup.

Day one was the scramble and alternate shot matches. Krieg was teamed with Eugin Pyon from Rutland High School. Wiegert was teamed with Mailey Buzzell from Veterans. Krieg and Pyon tied with their west team counterparts, Wiegert and Buzzell were victorious 2 & 1. Krieg and Pyon were paired together again for alternate shot matches. They won as the Middle Georgia team were ahead 9 ½ to 2 1/2/

Best Ball and singles matches were held on day two. Krieg and Buzzell were victorious in Best Ball, Wiegert won her match in singles play 3 & 1. Middle Georgia won the 2019 cup by a final score of 20-10. They’ll look to make it three in a row when the 2020 Cup returns to Macon.
