If one were to ask what was new with BCMS competition cheerleading, the answer would be plenty. This year’s squad has ten sixth graders. It was the first time for much of the squad when they took the floor at the West Laurens Raider Rumble.
They had the benefit of a large fanbase who’d made the short trip to support them. What took place was a solid first effort. One extension didn’t go up, but the routine was clean otherwise. Stunts were clean, motions were sharp. Tumbling, while well-executed, didn’t have the highest degree of difficulty.
But for such a young squad, supporters and coaches were happy for the first effort. Though their name wouldn’t be called when awards were presented, one point separated second through fourth place. Making it closer, one squad that finished ahead of Bleckley didn’t have a deduction called for two girls stepping out of bounds.
The Barons will be at Houston County High School September 28 for the Middle Georgia Cheer Classic.
