Cayleigh Francis snagged a low hit ball.

Though the Lady Barons were 6-7 in region play going into Wednesday’s regular season finale against J.R. Trippe, they’d been competitive in most of them. Four of the seven losses were by two runs or less. Many would come down to things like missed opportunities and other mistakes.

Marley Jarrell caught this ball in the air then tossed to first for a double play.

BCMS had a shot to make the playoffs had they been able to win. But missed opportunities and mistakes would again be a factor. A runner at third with one out in the second was left stranded. Ter’Nazia Elvine’s RBI single in the third cut into what was a 3-0 deficit.

Kenna Bowman goes to first for the unassisted out.

The first two runners reached in the bottom of the fourth, both were thrown out trying to steal. BC had runners at second and third with no outs in the sixth but could only get an RBI groundout from Marley Jarrell. Cayleigh Francis’ RBI single tied the game in the seventh, but a runner would be doubled off following a popup to end the threat.

Riley Haley catches a popup.

JRT scored three in the eighth. Two batters took called third strikes as BCMS was retired in order in the eighth, losing 6-3. Riley Haley went 2 for 4 with a double. Elvine, Jarrell and Francis all went 1 for 2.
