Last year, the Royals rallied from 28-7 down at Northeast only to lose in the final moments. The loss proved costly and contributed to them not making the playoffs. BCHS looked to avoid a repeat as they opened at home against the Raiders Friday night.

Arkenzio Hayes had two rushing touchdowns.

Leading on a two-yard Arkenzo Hayes touchdown run, the Raiders kept their second drive alive by converting fourth and one from near midfield. It was capped by a nine-yard touchdown run as time expired. A 35-yard interception return just 17 seconds into the second quarter gave Northeast a 14-7 lead.

Despite this hit, Bryce Bailey would pull away and dash 94 yards to the endzone.

Bleckley though would answer on a six-yard touchdown run with 7:12 left in the half. Northeast returned the ensuing kickoff deep into Royal territory but fumbled at the two. Dominic Sasser hit Bryce Bailey on a 94-yard catch and run touchdown as BCHS went ahead 21-14.

Tony's Auto Body Shop was Friday's game sponsor. As Joseph Teston was preparing to escort daughter Rose on the Homecoming court, wife Kristina and other family members were on hand to accept the game ball from Touchdown Club President Britt Stewart.

The ensuing kickoff was a squib kick recovered by Jakob Hill at the Raider 29. It was capped by Hayes’ second touchdown run with 3:33 left. Jhamir Marshall intercepted a pass on the Raiders ensuing possession at their 39. But a 42-yard field goal at the end of the half was wide left.

Teams traded possessions in the third save John Newbern’s fumble recovery on the Royal 43. The final scoring game with less than three minutes left in the fourth. Bailey connected with Marcus Brown on a 29-yard touchdown pass. With 1:10 left, a Raider touchdown run capped all scoring as the Royals won 35-20.

Two Royals combine on this stop.

Bailey accounted for 258 of Bleckley’s 358 yards (50 passing, 69 rushing on 19 carries, 139 receiving on four catches.) Sasser went 5 of 8 for 156 yards. Hayes had 86 yards on 13 carries. He also had 8.5 tackles, seven solo.

Willie Chambers had five tackles, four solo, one tackle for loss. BCHS plays at Dublin October 4. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
