Bleckley School Superintendent Steve Smith acknowledged in a press release that a former teacher was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The release was issued Tuesday night following a called Board of Education meeting.

Smith said the teacher was no longer affiliated with the school district. He added, “While we believe this to be an isolated incident, we have turned the matter over to law enforcement and the Professional Standards Commission, and they are conducting a full investigation. To our knowledge, the former teacher had no direct authority over the student, and we are unsure how the alleged relationship began.”

Smith said all employees were required to Sexual Misconduct training annually, and all certified employees were also required to undergo Professional Standards Commission Code of Ethics training annually. In speaking about the former employee Smith said “There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of behavior.”
