We are happy to announce the pairing of Mrs. Heather McDaniel and sixth grader, Kelsey Sanders, in our CIS/FC Mentoring Program for FY20! It did not take long to realize that these two matched perfectly according to their interviews. Crafts and talking were on the top of each of their lists!
During a recent visit, I found them working intently on Halloween paintings and asked a few questions. Although only together a few times, Kelsey was quick to say, “Ms. Heather makes me feel really awesome and I know I can trust her.” Kelsey loves hands on crafts and especially excited about the cross-stitch heart they are working on. She knows a little about crocheting and likes learning a new way to sew!
Heather said, “This hour goes by so quickly! If I were at home, I would be doing laundry or some other task. Mentoring gives me a chance to step away and is a special treat each week! I have smaller children of my own, but I have found it to be so much fun doing activities with an older child and seeing the level of care she takes with each project.
I highly recommend anyone with a little extra time to give one hour a week to a child at BCMS. There are no obstacles meeting with your mentee….just sign in and have fun!”
