City asking residents to conserve water.

The City of Cochran is asking residents to conserve water. That’s because the city and Bleckley is one of 103 counties placed under a Level One drought watch by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

According to a post on the city website, the Level One watch doesn’t warrant water restrictions but does require a public information campaign to help citizens better understand drought, it’s impact on water supplies, and the need for water conservation.

Public Works Director Wille Farrow said concern over water levels at the Upper Floridian Aquifier that provides water to the four wells serving the city prompted the EPD’s action. He outlined steps people could take to help conserve water.

Filling up the dishwasher completely before starting it.
Turning off the water before you shave or brush your teeth.
When doing your laundry, completely fill-up the washing machine before starting.
When doing your laundry, completely fill-up the washing machine before starting.
Outdoors, use a hose with a nozzle, and don't over-water.
Don't water outside between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (Recommended by Georgia EPD.)
Mulch your landscape to keep moisture in.

The post goes on to say that continued drought conditions could force the city to comply with other water conservation methods. There may be more help on the way as rain chances return this weekend.
