Continuing a trend that began in Summer 2018, Middle Georgia State University posted the third highest percentage increase enrollment for fall. That’s according to a report from the University System of Georgia released Tuesday.

According to the report, MGA’s fall enrollment was 8,066 students, a 3.4 percent increase. In addition, the university saw a 27.9 percent increase in students enrolled in master’s degree programs.

University president Dr. Christopher Blake said in a statement MGA offering degrees that match student needs as well as building relationships with other regional institutions were some of the reasons for the increased growth, "I think we are seeing the results of our efforts to build degree programs around the needs of our region's students and match our offerings with workforce needs. We are also strengthening our relationships with other regional institutions of higher education - such as Central Georgia Technical College - to align our efforts and continuing to look for opportunities to award students academic credit for their prior learning experiences.”

The growth trend for MGA began in Summer 2018 when the university posted a 7.4 increase in enrollment from the same period that previous year. A release from the university noted this was the second consecutive fall semester in which they had one of the highest percentages of enrollment growth in the USG.

Middle Georgia State was also included in the most recent US News and World Reports “Best Colleges 2020 – Top Public Schools, Regional Colleges South,” list. They were one of 11 out of 26 USG schools to see an enrollment increase for fall.
