Earlier this month, BCHS FBLA officers Masi Corbin, Sophie Knight, and Amanda Kight, along with advisor Melissa Barker, traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for the Fall Leadership Conference. Stops along the way included multiple Goodwill’s to search for extra business clothes for students who might need them for performance events as well as a meal at Panda Express.
There, the officers discussed activities each would be participating in at the conference, plus changes they’d like to see within the chapter. The next day, all three officers and Barker participated in participated in numerous workshops in which they were shown how to prepare to compete in testing and performance events, prepare for college, how to get the most out of FBLA, and how to better themselves as a team.
FBLA also recently held their annual March of Dimes Foundation fundraiser. March of Dimes funds research and provides education in an effort to prevent premature births. While March of Dimes is FBLA’s national project, local chapters aren’t required to host fundraisers. Officers though voted unanimously to again support the MODF.

Money was raised through blue jeans for babies, a teacher dress down day, and Penny Wars. Penny Wars was a school-wide competition between grades in which class had their own bucket. Donations of pennies or paper money would add to their score (IE: one dollar, one hundred points.) Silver money would cause a score deduction (a dime, minus 10 points.)
Though Penny Wars only raised $25.17, it did raise awareness about the March of Dimes Foundation and provided information about premature births to BCHS students. Overall, FBLA was able to raise $1103.12 through fundraisers as well as donations.
Bleckley FBLA would like to thank everyone who donated and helped throughout the week to help provide a better future for premature babies.
