A covered dish dinner with a variety of deserts was on the menu.

It was a busy, exciting season for the BCHS football squad cheerleaders. As they cheered on the Royals during their playoff run, some tried things they hadn’t done before, or not since middle school in stunt positions at games.

Scholar Athletes. (Not pictured due to the basketball game at Dublin, Jayda James.)

Athletes and families gathered in the high school cafeteria Thursday night to celebrate the year. Coach Heather Davis said the girls overall did a great job of cheering hard regardless of the weather or score at games. She was especially appreciative of the small group who braved the elements to cheer during the playoffs as many were in Columbus for competition cheer state finals.

Shy Chambers and Anna Brown.

Davis said they wished the team could’ve won so there would be one more game to cheer at. All cheerleaders received letter certificates. Before handing out scholar athlete awards, she encouraged freshmen recipients of the award to continue to work hard, noting it’d become more difficult to keep a 90 or better GPA the longer they were in school.

Awards went to: Jasmine Smith, Alexis Johnson, Amiya Smith, Amiyah Thigpen, Gabbi Ragan, Shy Chambers, LaraBeth Manning, Jayda James, Chloe Mullis, Caroline Pittman, Abigail Kirkland, Abbi Belflower. Senior cheerleaders who also received a special award for having a 90 or above GPA were Shayla Dean, Nataly Lassiter, Gracee Boston, Caroline Turknett, Anna Brown, and Abby McClure.

"Royals on three, 1, 2, 3 Royals!"

The other award, which was voted on by squad members, was the Captain’s Award. It went to Chambers and Brown. The evening ended with seniors receiving monogrammed thank you’s for help with the banquet, gifts from the squad for Davis, and them breaking it down one last time. Congratulations to all award winners.
