As it was the first of 2020, Tuesday night’s monthly Board of Education meeting was partially about setting things for the coming year.

Board officers were selected. Kim Wright was re-elected chair, Mike Sasser re-elected vice chair. Sasser was again chosen as Legislative Liaison. Minutes state there were no other nominations for any of the positions.

Per a recommendation by Superintendent Steve Smith, Hartley, and Hawkins LLP were chosen to continue to serve as board attorneys. Work sessions and meeting dates were voted on for the coming year. (They will run separately.)

In other items: a proclamation was signed marking January 27-31 as National FFA week. Smith said the HVAC projects at Bleckley Elementary and BCHS were completed and final payout information would be presented at the February meeting (February 18.)

On the new primary school, the architect indicated no unusual items were found in the asbestos report for buildings set to be demolished prior to the new school’s construction.
