It was a special season for Royals football. Beating Dodge County for the first time since 2013, making the playoffs for the first time since 2014. In planning the awards ceremony, players wanted to do something different to celebrate the year.

So they, coaches, and families gathered at First Baptist Church’s Hangar Sunday night for an awards ceremony/ Super Bowl party. As per usual, the entire coaching staff presented different awards. Winners were as follows.

| Hugh Cairney. |
Tom Porter Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership Award- Dominic Sasser. Jimmy Kilpatrick Leadership Award (Offense), Most Outstanding Offensive Back, Most Valuable Offensive Player- Bryce Bailey. Sam Barrs Leadership Award (Defense)- Arkenzio Hayes.

| Amarius Mims. |
Scholar Athlete awards went to Eli Mullis (9th), Dawson Sanders (10th), Sasser (11th), and Hugh Cairney (12th.) Cairney was named Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. Mullis won the Impact Freshman Award. Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman- Amarius Mims.

Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman, Defensive MVP- Willie Harris. Most Outstanding Linebacker- Jakob Hill. Most Outstanding Defensive Back- Ty Williams. Most Outstanding Receiver- Marcus Brown. Ben Dykes Hustle Award Offense- Jhamir Marshall.

Don Turknett Defensive Hustle Award- John Newbern. Captain’s Awards went to Bailey and Brown (offense) as well as Hayes and Hill (defense.) The last award was one debuted this year.

| Willie Harris. |
Presented by Stacy Nobles, it was the Brent Dubois Strongman Award. Created following the sudden passing of Dubois, who was a supporter of Royals football and helped during games, the award will go yearly to the player who has the highest overall total of the three core lifts in the weight room. The first recipient was Brent’s son, Beau Dubois.

| Marcus Brown. |
In closing, head coach Von Lassiter said while not all the players received awards, he couldn’t name one who didn’t deserve to be there. He praised and thanked them for their hard work and dedication.

He said people who saw the players would be able to tell there was something different about them not only as the players they were but also as they men they’d become.
