CIS/FC Moments in Mentoring for April.

I recently had the pleasure to sit down with this fun loving CIS/FC duo to discuss how the mentoring experience has affected their lives since their first meeting in October 2018.

Mrs. Long said, “Rachel has such a big heart and is a gifted singer, ukulele player and storyteller! She is always quick to laugh and is a walking Encyclopedia of card games! Having Rachel in my life has helped me learn different perspectives on many things and I have loved watching her grow. She has such a playfulness about her that always makes things fun. I am thrilled to have been able to get to know all about Rachel over the years. I hope we can stay in touch after she reaches high school.”

Rachel had similar feelings about Mrs. Long! Rachel said, “I was nervous at first when I was matched in the CIS/FC Mentoring Program. I remembered Mrs. Long from elementary school. She was our school’s librarian. I had a habit of looking at books out of my reading section and she would have to call me back over to my section.

Now, years later after my match with Mrs. Long, I have learned that she is such a good listener and I trust her completely with whatever I need to tell her. I do not have to worry about where our conversations go because she is there for me. I really look forward to our meetings on Fridays! Being with my friend, Mrs. Long, is the best way to start off my day!”

CIS/FC wishes to thank Mrs. Barbara Long for her dedication to Rachel and all the love, time and talent that she shares with her each week! If you or someone you know would like more information on how to become a CIS/FC Mentor at Bleckley Middle School, please contact Gretchen Tuck at gtuck@bleckleyschools.org or call 478-934-7270, Ext. 8002
