Despite the COVID-19 crisis, regular city business continues. Both the Board of Education and Cochran City Council will hold regularly scheduled meetings April 14. Both though will be impacted current social distancing guidelines.
School superintendent Dr. Steve Smith said in an email only ten people would be allowed in the room. There are five board members, Smith would make six. Mayor Billy Yeomans said via email the city council meeting would be held in the auditorium. Chairs would be placed six feet apart. Attendance there would also be limited to ten people.
Six council members, the mayor, city manager Richard Newbern, city clerk Tracy Jones, and James Tidwell of the Cochran Journal. Yeomans added they were trying to find a way for the public to be involved utilizing telecommunication saying, “This is new to us, but we are trying to make the best out of a bad situation.”
