A new program offered by Middle Georgia State University will allow currently employed school parapros to earn their bachelor’s degree and become certified teachers. This summer, MGA will begin offering the online/weekend track to the Bachelor of Science in Elementary/Special Education.

Developed by the Department of Teacher Education and Social Work, the program is designed to let certified paraprofessionals get their degree while keeping their current job. According to a university release, a majority of the coursework can be completed online over two years.

Summer 2020 classes, all online, start May 28. If classes have resumed in the fall, weekend face-to-face meetings will be held then at the Macon campus. Parapros can fulfil field and clinical requirements at the schools where they work with permission of their principals.
