Bleckley County High School Junior Lucy Wiegert, participated in the Georgia PGA Junior Golf tournament, Cateechee Junior Classic held at the Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell August 15-16. The field of golfers endured a 90-minute weather delay about halfway through their round on Saturday and had to complete their round during the last moments of daylight.

Wiegert finished the day as the leader of the girls 15-18 division and the overall girls’ leader with a round of 10-over par, including 2 birdies. Round two began overcast and cooler but, when the clouds moved out, it quickly became uncomfortably warm. Wiegert and her two playing partners battled back and forth throughout the round.

In the end, Wiegert shot another round of 10-over par and held on to win her division and the overall girls’ title with a tournament score of 20-over par. Wiegert’s next competition will be August 29-30, at the HJGT Old Fort Junior Open in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Visit lucywiegertgolf.com for the latest on her career.
