James and Gerry Holland with their vaccination certificates.

James C. Holland, age 87, and his wife, Gerry, age 85, got their first round of shots of the COVID-19 vaccine in Bleckley County today. Daughter Becky jokingly had 'Dum-Dum' suckers on hand "if we all were good when we did the shots." Apparently all went smoothly as evidence by the sucker in Mr. Holland's mouth. (Photo above.)

The Hollands wanted to commend the Bleckley County Health Department, Heartland EMS, local firefighters, law enforcement, the Pilot Club of Cochran, the local school chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America and others who were a part of the Bleckley County Drive-Thru Vaccination site in Cochran on January 18. Mr. Holland said everything went so smooth,

Daughter Becky said her parents were anxious to sign up for the vaccine once the opportunity presented itself. “When we were told that vaccinations would be available for those over the age of 65 and their caregivers, along with first responders, law enforcement and fire fighters, my octogenarian parents decided to sign up right away.”

Besides thanking the various groups who assisted, Becky also wanted to thank Heartland EMS owner Bill Cheek for letting the property be used a vaccination site.

“To Mr. Bill (Cheek) and his folks at Heartland EMS, thank you for stepping up and donating your space when the numbers of those wanting to be vaccinated got a bit overwhelming.

Everyone at the site made the whole process go smooth not only with the way things were done, but also their receptive and kind attitudes.”
