A brief meeting of the Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board was held Thursday night before a world series committee meeting. In the board meeting, director Andy Brand said he would be going to Roberta on January 15 to bid on hosting Dixie Youth Baseball state tournaments this summer.

Brand said the bid for hosting had increased to $9,000. He said the way it would be done was counties who were willing to pay the price would have their names put into a hat and the winner be drawn.

Brand also noted that January 15 opening day for both basketball and winter soccer. Staff and board members would be around to ensure everything goes smoothly. Start time for both is 9 am, admission will be $2 per person.

He said registration for spring sports (IE: baseball, softball) would begin next week. As opposed to charging a gate fee on opening day, he said he planned to increase registration from $55 to $60.

The world series committee then met to discuss preparations being made for when the rec. department hosts the 6u and 8u Dixie Youth Softball World Series July 29 through August 3.

Volunteers are needed for various jobs. Call Brand, (478)934-3225 for more information on how you can get involved.
