With the start of spring sports just weeks away, and tournament season beginning in June, there were many things discussed at what was a combination rec. board/world series planning meeting held Monday night.

Director Andy Brand went over info regarding signups for spring baseball/softball/T-Ball as well as soccer. He said the 263 signups for ball was up, the 159 for soccer was down slightly down.

Opening day for ball will be March 26, soccer April 11. Going forward, due to the $5 increase in registration fees, there will be no admission charged for opening day.

Brand then went over the summer state tournament schedule. 6u/10u softball, June 17-20. 6u/8u baseball, June 23-36. The 6u and 8u Dixie Softball World Series will be in Cochran July 27- August 3.

Upcoming financial projects were discussed. Brand said lighting on some of the fields needed to be replaced. He also wants to restripe the parking lot. After discussing prices with board members, he said he would try to get a cheaper estimate on the striping.

Getting the lighting for the fields (some of the lights had gone out) was first priority. Many things were discussed during the world series planning meeting including ensuring the number of hotel rooms reserved would be available, speaking to local businesses about sponsorships, as well as vendors at the tournament.

Business sponsors and volunteers are still needed. The world series will bring teams and families from several states to Georgia. To volunteer or for more info, call (478)934-3225.
