The Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting April 18. Much of the news came from the executive session.

Resigning at the end of the year due to retirement will be CIS/FC Site Coordinator Gretchen Wilson-Tuck. Also resigning are coaches and teachers Brad Harber and Cody Howell. Both are effective at the end of the school year.

The athletic staffing plan for FY24 was updated. Returning to his former role as defensive coordinator (replacing Will Connor) will be Derrick Farrow. Farrow left last year to coach in Tift County. He will also be head track coach.

Returning to coaching will be Elizabeth Brown. She'll be an assistant cheer coach for returning head coach Becky Wilson. The two won three straight region titles.

Another change at the middle school will be that of assistant athletic director. Wesley Odom will take over the position previously held by Mike Lee.

In news not related to personnel, the board did a comprehensive review of school policies related to general school administration and fiscal management. No changes were made.

In an update on the primary school, superintendent Dr. Trey Belflower said the kitchen floor had been repaired, lights had been repaired, and permanent door fixtures had been installed.

As part of the consent items passed was Board Norms and Protocols. You can find the list here.

There were numerous special recognitions at the meeting. Honored were: the Superintendent's Advisory Team, the Youth Leadership Team, the state champion FFA Ag Mechanics Team, the state champion Beta Club, and the state champion Literary Team. All received Dairy Queen gift cards.

There will be a called board meeting May 4 at 5 pm in the board room. The purpose is to receive updates from the District Leadership Team and any other business to come before the board.
