"Here come the Royals!"

It was a matchup of top 10 teams as BCHS, ranked fourth in Class A Division 1, took on Schley County, top-ranked in Class A Division 2. It was a back and fourth affair that the Royals arguably should’ve won.

The Wildcats intercepted a pass on BC’s first drive at the Royal 40. It would be turned into a 20-yard touchdown pass with 8:13 left. The Royals would answer less than three minutes later when Kam Everett connected with Markeze Brown on a 31-yard scoring strike on fourth down. The game was tied at 7.

Josh Stanley, Jr. had a big game rushing.

Josh Stanley’s 69-yard touchdown run with 3:04 left gave BC their first lead of the game. It would be short-lived as Schley had a 27-yard pick six in the final 22 seconds to tie the game.

Schley retook the lead on a five-yard touchdown pass with a little over seven minutes left in the half. Bleckley trailed 21-14 at halftime. They tied the score early in the third on a 69-yard touchdown catch by Marcus Newsone. Schley though would again retake the lead, this time on a 13-yard run with 6:44 left.

BC responded a little over a minute later on Stanley’s second touchdown run. BC took their first lead with 1:36 left in the third on a Rodriguez Flagg three-yard touchdown run.

The 35-28 lead wouldn’t last as Schley tied the game less than three minutes into the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown pass. With 8:08 left, Everett broke through with a 55-yard dash to the endzone. BC led 42-35. They got a stop on 4th and 7 with 5:52 left in the game.

But Schley would get their third interception of the game when BC went for it on 4th and 4 from the Schley The Wildcats had the ball on their own 47. They would be aided by a personal foul penalty.

The Wildcats scored as time expired. In overtime, both teams started from the 15. BC couldn’t score. Schley did on third down and prevailed 48-42. The Wildcats got 21 points, including the game-tying score, off BC turnovers.

Everett was 8 of 15 for 132 yards and two scores. He also rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries. Stanley had 100 yards on 10 carries.

Bleckley plays at West Laurens September 15. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.
