BCHS traveled to West Laurens Friday night. The Raiders were coming off a win at Vidalia, the Royals a tough overtime loss to Schley County. Mistakes by BC would contribute to another close loss.

Nazario Johnson’s two-yard touchdown catch with 6:17 left in the first gave Bleckley the lead. Early in the second, a six-yard touchdown run by the Raiders tied the score. Another six-yard scoring run with two minutes left in the half gave WL the lead.

BCHS returned the ensuing kickoff to their own 49. With 31 seconds left in the half, John Stanley scored from four yards out to tie the game at 14. Tied 14-14 at halftime, a mistake to open the third would allow the Raiders to retake the lead.

The Royals fumbled second half opening kickoff. WL recovered it at the Royal 27. With 9:37 remaining in the third, the Raiders retook the lead on an eight-yard touchdown run.

BC again answered when 1:18 left in the quarter on a Kam Everett 29-yard touchdown run. However the extra point was missed. With 4:22 left in the fourth, WL added to their lead with an 81-yard touchdown run. But they missed the extra point after the ball was backed up due to an excessive celebration penalty.

The Royal offense got the ball at the Raider 40 with 4:14 left in game. Johnson’s second touchdown catch, a 17-yard reception with 1:18 left, and ensuing extra point, tied the score. For the second straight week, the Royals headed to overtime.

In the extra session, Bleckley would again go for it on fourth down but not make it. They appeared to have forced a fourth and one try for the Raiders but an off sides defensive penalty gave the Raiders a fresh set of downs from the three. Two plays later, a one-yard Raider touchdown run ended the game, 33-27.

Stanley ran for 120 yards on 22 carries. Everett ran for 94 yards on nine carries and also went 8 of 10 for 75 yards passing.

Bleckley will celebrate Homecoming September 22 against Pelham. Kickoff is 7:30 pm, with the crowning of the queen at halftime.
