Cheerleaders with good finish at sectionals.

It was a day to claim a berth at state as BCHS traveled back to Ola for sectionals competition. Bleckley was in area one which included region opponents Dublin, East Laurens, Jefferson County, and Swainsboro.

BC was the fourth team to perform. Family and friends crowded into the priority viewing area to cheer the squad on. What they saw was the squad’s overall best performance of the season.

Not everything was perfect, a stunt did come down early. However, the pyramid stayed up. Tumbling was crisp, good motions. Reaction on the mat and from some of the spectators confirmed that it was a good day.

But would it be enough to win area/region? Sadly, after a long wait, the answer would be no. BC missed first place by four points. However, their score of 88 was their highest this season.

Even more exciting, the Royals were just 5.5 points behind top-scoring Armuchee, last year’s state champion. That’s with not getting full points for all parts of their routine.

The squad with head coach Heather Davis.

BCHS competes at state November 4 in Macon.
