The Bleckley County Board of Education met in called session Tuesday afternoon. In attendance were members of the District Leadership team. The team consists of administrators such as Bleckley Primary principal Dr. Jenna Maddox as well as heads of departments such as Student Support Services Director Dr. Cindy Felkins.

According to meeting minutes, each member of the team had a presentation detailing what was going well, problems they were facing, and their plans to address them. There was also other board business conducted at the meeting.

Approved was a motion to replace the HVAC system in the middle school gym for $150,000, to add rubber surfaces to the two special needs playgrounds at Bleckley Primary for $62,000 and to replace the carpet in the high school media center for $30,000. The HVAC replacement and resurfacing will be paid for with SPLOST funds.

Several things of note came from the executive session. Approved was the resignation of BCMS teacher and head girls basketball coach Jalen Gordy, effective at the end of the school year. Angie Durham, an assistant for both middle and high school girls teams, was named the new head coach.

BCHS alum Anna Brown was hired as an elementary school teacher and will also be an assistant coach for the BCHS competition and football squads as well as assistant soccer coach for the BCMS boys and girls. Morris Ross will join Antonio Farrow on the bench next season as assistant BCMS boys basketball coach.

Returning BCMS head football coach Ray Hardin added assistants in Alex Garnto, Alex Baughman, and Ethan Hulsey.
