Fordham and Son Farm, consisting of Jim and Will Fordham, were named Conservationist of the Year for Bleckley County at the Central Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District 59th annual convention held recently at First Baptist Church.
Each year, over 130 farmers and partners in conservation gather to recognize and celebrate significant local efforts in the field.. A Conservationist of the Year is named for each of the seven counties the district serves. Fordham and Son were selected for their “exceptional dedication to conservation efforts and practices on the land.”
Fordham and Son began as Jim Fordham and father Buddy. It now includes Jim’s son, Will. They have around 675 acres where they grow soybeans, cotton, peanuts, and about 60 head of cattle.
Fordham credits his father in teaching him the importance of farming as well as his love and respect for the land. He thanks his father for the knowledge and wisdom he instilled in him and for how far he has gotten today. He also thanks son Wil who will be carrying the farm into the next generation. Fordham also mentioned wife Karen, daughter Morgan, and daughter-in-law Gracie, for all being important parts of the family business.
