"Moral victory" is an expression no fan likes to hear. But in what's been a difficult season for Royals football, one could argue last week's game in Louisville was indeed one. BCHS was competitive until the fourth quarter, missed opportunities and late turnovers cost them the game.

So Bleckley fans probably felt reasonably good Friday night about Screven County coming to Cochran. However, that good feeling would prove to be short-lived against a very fast-moving Gamecock offense.

It took just 40 seconds for Screven to score as they took the opening kickoff and quickly moved down the field. With 11:20 still in the first quarter, a Gamecock TD pass had Bleckley down 7-0. On the Royals first offensive possession, Roy Veal appeared to aggrivate an ankle injury. Veal would see limited first half duty, and not play during the second half.

Screven continued to move the ball on offense. Starting from the Bleckley 41 on their next drive, they connected on a touchdown pass. After the ball was moved back on the extra point attempt due to a a false start call, the Gamecocks went for two. They converted and led 15-0 with 8:19 remaining.

The deficit grew on the Gamecocks' next possession as a touchdown run with 3:17 left made the hole 21-0. BCHS would try to convert a fourth and long on its next possession via fake punt, but was unsuccessful. Screven continued to score, another touchdown run with 1:08 left put Bleckley down 28-0 as the first quarter ended.

Starting from their own 39 in the second quarter, the Gamecocks again moved quickly down the field. With 9:14 remaining, BCHS trailed 35-0. A break finally came Bleckley's way with about seven minutes remaining in the half. Screven fumbled, Bleckley recovered on the Gamecock 17.

Jacob Byram's six-yard quarterback keeper with 6:34 left got the Royals on the board. However, Screven did not relent. After appearing to stop the Gamecocks on the BC 29, a fake punt moved the ball to the Royal 16. With 1:46 left, Screven led Bleckley 42-7.

The second half was played with a running clock. No scoring occurred and 42-7 proved to be the final score. Brandon Watkins had 30 yards on five carries. The Royal offense had just 101 total yards.
