It was a busy Board of Education meeting held February 19 as the board caught up on several special recognitions. As such, the meeting was held in the BCHS auditorium.
Bleckley County High School Teacher and Support Person of the Year.

First recognized were teacher and support person of the year from all schools. All teachers received a certificate and a monetary gift from State Bank of Cochran. Bank vice president Jed Evans was on hand to present the gift.
Bleckley County Middle School Teacher and Support Person of the Year.

Teacher and Support Person of the Year were as follows. Bleckley Primary- Betsy Rycroft and Callie Hatfield. Bleckley Elementary- Kate Price and Stephanie Stewart. Bleckley County Middle School- Mandy Rogers and Jessie Robinson. Bleckley County High School- Mandy Little and Rhonda Pasby. Bleckley County Success Academy- Shannon Churchwell and Ruth Canfield.
The BCHS Beta Club Show Choir and Large Group Performance State Champions.

Rycroft was also recognized as being the Special Education Teacher of the Year. Amber Rangel was recognized as the Nutrition Employee of the Year. Robert Smith (unable to attend) was recognized as Bus Driver of the Year and Trecia Gardner was recognized as Bus Aide of the Year.

The BCHS One Act Play state champions were recognized next. Jessica Prater recognized the middle school Beta Club state champions Natalie Miller and Cole Lewis.. Both individual state champions from the BCHS Beta Club as well as the large performance group and show choir champions were recognized.

Last but not least, CTSO students gave presentations on the CTSO’s offered at BCHS., Representing FBLA were Kamaria McNair and Jewell Sanders, representing Ag were Sheyla Morales Velazquez and Josh Knox, and representing HOSA were Scout Totty and R.J. Johnson.

The board then moved into regular board business. Among the consent items approved were FY27 Certified Contracts. As stated in meeting minutes, Chris Dryer took advantage of policy BCBI to address the board. He spoke about a desire to establish a wrestling program at BCHS.

The monthly Comprehensive Policy Review involved looking at polices in Section 1: Instructional Program and the updated language in Board Policy GBC: Professional Personnel Recruitment. From the executive session: the board accepted the resignation due to retirement of longtime BCHS Secretary Kathy Jones, effective at the end of the year. Jay Holiday was hired as a PE Teacher and coach at BCMS. Ashley Baubitz was named the new BCMS Competition Cheerleading head coach, Kayla Cosette was named community coach.
