Several groups took advantage of Friday's crowd to fundraise before kickoff.

A banged up group of Royals took the field for their season opener at home versus Lamar County. Ken Hughes was out with a pulled calf muscle. Defensive back Rydealous "Spud" Taylor was involved in an auto accident Sunday.

L-R: Cody Pearce, Savon Walters, and Jamante Clark were amongst the injured.

Others injured included Savon Walters and Cody Pearce. Despite what was a peacemeal lineup with players doing double duty and starting at different positions, Bleckley almost overcame a poor first half to win.

The team is welcomed onto the field by the BCHS Cheerleaders.

An opening run by Tavon Ross was nulified with a holding call. On the next play, Lamar recovered a fumble on the BC 23. Though able to keep the Trojans from the end zone, a 32-yard field goal put LC ahead with 6:47 left. Aided by a personal foul, BCHS was able to take their next drive to the Lamar 25.

Derrick Farrow wore #8 Friday night in honor of teammate Rydealous "Spud" Taylor who was injured in an auto accident Sunday night.

It would stall and a tying field goal was no good. Starting on their own 29, LC used a 41-yard run to get into Royal territory. With less than a second left, a five-yard touchdown run made it 10-0. In the second, Bleckley would appear to be stopped on a drive at the Lamar 25.

An offsides penalty gave the Royals new life and they converted a 4th and short. Facing 3rd and 16 after a holding call, Tavon Ross hit Jaquante Burns to give BC a first and goal. He scored from five yards out with 8:59 left to make it 10-7. Lamar would be aided by a personal foul on their ensuing drive allowing them to get to their own 45.

LC would eventally get to the BC 7. A 10-yard touchdown run with 5:31 left made it 17-7. The Trojans used a 29-yard completion on their next possession to get to BC's 26. With 1:36 left in the hahlf, Trojan running back Tevn Childs had his second rushing td of the game. This one came from a yard out and it made the score 24-7.

Music from this year's Royal Kingsman halftime show comes from "The Jersey Boys.

In the third, Bleckley appeared to have Lamar stopped near midfield. But a 50-yard run on 4th and 2 moved the ball insisde the Royal 10. A sack and penalty kept LC out of the end zone but a 28-yard field goal made it 27-7. Bleckley got a big play on defense during the Trojans next possession when Zack Moe picked off a pass and returned it to their 41.

Zack Moe returns an intereception.

Pass completions to Burns and Frankie Mullis made it first and goal. Ross scored again, this time from four yards out to make it 27-14 with 4:35 left. The Bleckley defense got a stop on fourth down in the fourth quarter, holding the Trojans on 4th and 3 from the Royal 16. Bleckley would be aided by a pair of pass interference calls on their next drive.

Gracie, a black lab owned by Jack Walker, retrived tees used in kickoffs by both teams Friday.

The second wiped out an interception giving the ball back to BC around the 40-yard line. Tavon Ross would stay upright on a near-sack and fling the ball to Dytrez Nelson. He ran 38-yards and drew the Royals within 27-21 with 5:14 left. Despite a five-yard face mask, Bleckley's defense forced a punt from Lamar with 1:27 remaining in the game.

Jaquante Burns fights for extra yards.

BCHS drove from their 29 to the Lamar 44. A sack moved the offense back and a last-ditch pass on 4th and 21 was intercepted as the Royals lost 27-21. Ross had 95 yards on 20 carries with two scores. Burns caught two balls for 65 yards. Defensively, BC surrendered 329 yards on the ground.

Dytrez Nelson scores in the fourth for Bleckley.
