One thing could be said about the Lady Royals as they began the state playoffs Wednesday afternoon. They were battle tested.

Allie Keel tosses to Kalee Kitchens at first for the out.

This summer alone, they played in three scrimmage tournaments, plus a scrimmage hosted by West Laurens, as well as a scrimmage against Hawkinsville. During the regular season, BC played in tournaments hosted by Brantley County, Crisp County, and Brookwood.

A Lady Tiger leaps to avoid Chrystal Harris sliding into third.

In game one, Jordan Williams two-out double capped a three-run bottom of the first. Metter got an unearned run in the third. Allie Keel's fourth inning single was the first hit since the first, just the second baserunner.

Hannah Coulter makes the tag just before a runner can score.

Chrystal Harris' second hit of the game was part of a two-run fifth. Chelsea Brady had a sac fly in the sixth as Bleckley went on to win 6-1. Harris was 2 for 3. Keel went 2 for 2. Williams was 1 for 2.

Chelsea Brady is there for the catch in left field.

Leading 2-0 in game two, Metter tied the score in the third. BC got an unearned run in the fourth and an RBI when Aliyah Whitehead was in the fifth.. Taylor Dykes; sixth inning two-run double made it 6-2. Despite three Lady Tiger runs in seventh, BCHS hung on 6-5.

Taylor Dykes slides home safely.

It secured their third Sweet 16 berth in four years. Dykes went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles. Head coach Janice Bryan attributed their current success to the hard work they've put in.

Faith Harris tags out a player before she can get back to second base.

"It (reaching the Sweet 16) makes everything we've been doing since June worthwhile. I see us peaking at the right time." Bryan also felt as before that they got timely hitting, good pitching, and good defense when needed.

Players celebrate after the win.

Bleckley hosts Jeff Davis in the Sweet 16 October 22. Game times are 4 and 6 pm.
