It was a good day for the brothers of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, especially those associated with what had been the colony on the Cochran campus of Middle Georgia State University. Because on this day, the colony became a chapter.

Earlier Saturday, initiation ceremonies were held for 40 new members. The initiation was done by members who'd traveled several hours to be there. That night, an installation banquet was held for what is now the Upsilon-Zeta Chapter, the 412th nationwide.

Henry Whitfield referenced the slide saying current members would be leaving a legacy for those who join in the future.

There were opening remarks from MGA President Dr. Christopher Blake as well as Cochran Campus Director Henry Whitfield. Whitfield is a member of the Kappa-Zeta Chapter at Georgia Southern.

Chan Jones encouraged members not to rest on their laurels of becoming a chapter.

Cochran Chapter President Tanner Lords spoke briefly highlighting some of the things they'd done including helping with the Charles Johnson Football Camp in Hawkinsville. Lords said there plans to build a house on campus. Alumni Advisor Chan Jones said in the 14 months since the fraternity had been established, members performed 3500 hours of community service.

Presenting the charter was Derek Marchman of Charlottesville, Virginia. A member of Lambda-Xi Chapter at Georgia College and State University, Marchman is the overall President. He encouraged members to "celebrate tonight but be ready to work tomorrow."

The group pose with the charter.

The evening ended with recitation of the fraternity creed and Jones being made an honorary member of the Cochran chapter.
