Christmas events in Cochran December 6.

The Pilot Club of Cochran will hold their annual Christmas tree lighting Lite-a-Lite ceremony on the Chamber of Commerce lawn December 6 at 6 pm. The Cochran Christmas Parade starts at 7 pm and will proceed down Second street through downtown.

A "Battle of the Badges" to help those in need.

The American Red Cross was at the Jaycee Barn Wednesday for the "Battle of the Badges" blood drive. Organized by Chief Deputy Jeff Simpson, it was a contest to see who could donate the most blood between the Sheriff's Department and Bleckley County Fire Department. Simpson said the idea came to him after reading a Facebook post from a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy who had to carry his 10-year old daughter to Atlanta for a blood transfusion. She has a rare disease.
A Red Cross worker said 16 units of blood had been collected.

BCHS Honors, AP Classes, thank community for support of bake sale.

The Bleckley County High School AP and Honors, Science, Economics, and Math classes held their annual pre-Thanksgiving bake sale Tuesday morning in the First Baptist Church parking lot. Proceeds will go toward an education trip to Universal Studios in Orlando this January. A thank you to everyone who came out in support of them despite the less than favorable weather.
