Georgia DOT suspending interstate lane closures for Memorial Day weekend.

Because of the increase in traffic over the Memorial Day weekend, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced they would be suspending interstate lane closures from May 23 at noon through May 27 at 5 am. A release posted on the GDOT website states the closures are designed to ”ease travel, reduce delays and increase safety.” Motorists are advised to reduce speeds when traveling through work zones and to move over one lane when possible as lane closures could be reinstated management or emergencies on the interstate. Crews could also still be working near interstates.

(Photos contributed.) Bleckley County High School senior Scout Totty presented a check to Bleckley Primary for their food bag program Tuesday afternoon. The program provides kids in need with food to eat each weekend until they return to school the following Monday. Toddy, a member of the State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board, chose raising funds for the food bag program as her service project. The money was raised via a run-a-thon with middle and high school cross country students where they ran six hours relay style on April 6.
