Curtain closes on a good season for BCHS Concert Band.

It�s been a good year for the Bleckley County High School concert band. The wind ensemble received an overall superior rating and superior sight reading rating at the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group evaluations. Henli Jones tried out and made the District 11 Honor Band. Jones, along with Ja'Myiah Bowen, Aubrey Bugg, Sophie Lucas, Rachel Turman, Bianca Vincent, and Alissa Wilson made the Sweet Onion Honor Band in Vidalia May 4. At the quartets and solos event, Alissa Wilson and Zada Davis received superiors on their solos. The quartet of Ja'Myiah Bowen, Alissa Wilson, Sophie Lucas, and Dakota Fountain received superiors on their performance.

The band�s spring concert was held Thursday night. Besides music, band members were presented awards for their achievements during the year. Cords were presented to seniors who had been in the Royal Kingsmen and concert band all four years. Aubrey Bugg was presented with the John Philip Sousa award.

The concert was the final for director Matthew McClellan who had already submitted his resignation for the end of the school year. He spoke after the show taking the time to thank the audience made up of parents and friends for their support during his six years at Bleckley.

Outdoor adventure for BCES fifth graders.

(Photos courtesy Bleckley County Elementary School Facebook page.) The final week plus for Bleckley Elementary fifth graders has been exciting with some fun outdoor events. This week, they took a tour of Gully Branch Tree Farm. While there, they heard presentations from Bleckley County Fire Department officers Michael Francis and Hannah McCranie, as well as the Georgia Forestry Commission and Department of Natural Resources The BCFD was also in attendance at Ag Day this week along with other Agricultural specialists. It was coordinated by the Bleckley 4-H Office.
