Rec. Department news and notes.

The Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department board held their monthly meeting Monday afternoon. It was announced that softball would be playing Diamond Select because of more teams to compete against. The rec. department will host Dixie Youth Baseball district tournaments for 6u, 8u, 10u, and 12u. 6 and 8u will be June 7 through 9 with 10 and 12u being June 14 through 16. The June monthly meeting was moved to June 3 at 5 pm to allow for any last-minute discussions before the tournaments. Also, there are plans to make upgrades to the football field in the form of new bleachers and new goalposts.

Two BCHS students are dual graduates with OFTC.

A pair of Bleckley County High School seniors who will be participating in graduation on May 25 have also graduated with a Technical Certificate of Credit or diploma. They are, Landon Ashley- Industrial Electrician along with Rylee Little- Gas Metal Arc Welder and Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder.

BCHS Honors English students become "Knight Writers."

Bleckley County High School freshmen Honors English students recently visited the Cochran campus of Middle Georgia State University for a day of instruction in poetry followed by a writing marathon. According to a Facebook post, activities included creating word art of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Haunted Palace” and writing reflective responses to poems such as Edgar Guest’s “Keep Going.” The program was ran by MGA faculty and students. Local-based 10u softball teams holding tryouts.

Georgia Fire will also hold a prayer walk May 24 at 8 pm on Field 8 at the rec. department to pray for the upcoming season, the girls trying out, as well as the parents. The public is invited to attend. The survey that should be completed before tryouts is available by clicking the link.

Middle School theatre talent on display.



The NCMS Theatre Classes performed "James and the Giant Peach" Saturday evening. There were two shows that allowed for double casting and different students to have different parts in each performance. Audience members applauded in appreciation of the talent and effort put fourth by the students.
