GHSA announces proposed region alignments for 2026-28.

The Georgia High School Association announced proposed region alignments for 2026-28 Monday. In the new region alignments, Bleckley is placed in region 2-AA along with A.C.E., Dodge County, Dublin, East Laurens, and Vidalia. Chance Pittman made his middle school coaching debut as he was head coach of BCMS softball this season. It was a good season which saw the Lady Barons upset Jeff Davis in the playoffs and finish region runner up.

The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry will be at Tabernacle of Testimony November 13 from 11 an until 2 pm or until supplies run out. The event is drive thru, please stay in your car upon arrival.

City Council gives money to local non-profits to help with food insecurity.

At last Thursday's city council meeting, Cochran City Council voted unanimously to give $4,000 to four local non-profits ($1,000 each) to battle food insecurity given the ongoing government shutdown and it's effect on SNAP benefits. The groups receiving money were: Faith Temple Precious Faith Ministries, First Baptist Church of Cochran, Willing Hands Ministry Center, and Cochran Helps. According to a post on the District 2, Post 1 Facebook page of council member and mayor-elect Carla Coley announcing the news, 48 percent of children receive free or reduced lunch at school and 33 percent of residents live at or below the poverty line.
