Event put on by local teen tries to bring Christmas cheer to community.

The sound of Christmas carols being played and sang could be heard around the courthouse Thursday night at the first ever “Carols at the Courthouse.” It was organized by BCHS Junior Ellen Arnold. She said she was inspired to do something to make Christmas brighter in the community after reading the Christmas story in the Bible. The event featured traditional hymns being played along with passages being read from the Christmas story. Joy Ellen Arnold and Andrea Vincent performed the Spanish version of “Silent Night.” There was free hot chocolate and a place to donate canned goods or cash for local people in need.

GDOT to suspend lane closures for Christmas, New Year's.

In anticipation of heightened travel this holiday season, the Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a temporary suspension of lane closures along Georgia interstates, major state routes and roadways near major shopping centers, malls, or districts. The suspensions will take place December 22 at 5 am through December 26 at 10 pm and December 29 from 5 am through January 2, 2024 at 10 pm. Despite the suspensions, travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant as maintenance crews may still be active near highways. Drivers should also remember certain long-term closures may remain due to safety concerns and incident management, emergency or maintenance-related lane closures could take place at any time on any route.
