Schedules
BCMS soccer teams to begin playoffs next week.

Both the BCMS Barons and Lady Barons soccer teams will begin the MGMSAA playoffs next week. The third-seeded Barons travel to second seed West Laurens November 27 at 4:30 pm. The second seeded Lady Barons host third seed J.R. Trippe November 28 at 4 pm.

Christmas events in Cochran December 1.

While many people and businesses view today as the start of the Christmas season, there will be several events in downtown Cochran December 1 to unofficially start it. Pilot Club of Cochran will hold their Lite-A-Lite Christmas tree lighting ceremony on the lawn in front of the Chamber of Commerce at 6 pm. Just a few doors down on the courthouse steps, the combined handbell choirs of First Baptist Church and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will be in concert at 6 pm. The lighted Christmas parade which starts at Middle Georgia State University before proceeding down Second Street begins at 7 pm.

People helping people on Thanksgiving.

(Some photos contributed.) While many people enjoyed Thanksgiving food and fellowship with friends and family, some spent part of their day helping others. Lakeview Baptist Church continued its Thanksgiving tradition of feeding the community. They delivered plates to people that morning. A community Thanksgiving dinner was held that evening at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was conducted by numerous volunteers including members of the Dre Day Foundation and community member Vanessa Sanders. Sanders, who helped collaborate with Dre Day Co-founder Tarious Pitts said she was moved to help after meeting local homeless people.

Gardner-Webb, former Royal Harris, to play at Mercer in playoffs.

Mercer University will host Gardner-Webb in round one of the NCAA Division 1 FCS playoffs Saturday at 3 pm. Former Royal Willie Harris plays for the Bulldogs at defensive end.
