He spoke about how they approach a fire as well as factors involved in issuing burn permits for non-homeowners. Factors include weather and smoke that could affect a major road.

What's closed for Juneteenth?

Monday, June 19, will be a federal holiday, celebrating Juneteenth. Federal government offices and banks will be closed. The county courthouse will be closed. Other businesses such as Walmart will be open.

Juneteenth celebrated.



A Juneteenth festival was held Saturday behind the Chamber of Commerce and police department. There were food vendors, live music, a bounce house for kids, and a variety of booths. Juneteenth, made a federal holiday in 2021, is designed to celebrate the emancipation of slaves. Officially, Juneteenth will be Monday, June 19.

The mobile food pantry set for June 20 at Cornerstone Church of Cochran has been cancelled. According to a post on the Communities in Schools/Family Connection Facebook page, the decision was made by the Middle Georgia Food Bank.

Lady Royals selling car wash tickets, T-Shirts


The BCHS softball team has two fundraisers ongoing. They're selling Tidal Wave Car Wash tickets. $10 for a $20 wash, good at any location. They're also selling "Bleckley Softball" T-Shirts. In purple and gray. $20 for cotton, $22 for dri-fit. All youth and adult sizes available. See any player on the list to participate in either fundraiser.
