Current listing of competition, football squad fundraisers. ***Updated***


The BCHS Competition and Football squad cheerleaders have several fundraisers to help with expenses for the upcoming season. They're selling Booster Club memberships for $30. Your name will go on a banner displayed at home football games and competitions. Memberships are due June 6. They're also selling Mako Bay carwash vouchers. $10 for a $25 wash, now through June 19. You can also pick up a custom BC window decal with your favorite sport on it for $10. Booster Club forms are available to download via the link. A day to remember those who gave all.

A Memorial Day program was held Monday morning in the city auditorium. Donnie Dixon again provided the welcome. After the presentation of colors, pledge and national anthem, there were brief remarks by retired USAF Staff Sgt. Johnny Barton. The main feature was an audio and visual presentation honoring Cochran’s fallen interspersed with other veteran memorials. Dr. Sam Tate, pastor of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church and former Army Chaplain, had closing comments before the playing of “Taps.” Attendees then had the option to enjoy light refreshments in the back of the auditorium.

Shotgun teams do well at state competition.


(Photos contributed.) The Bleckley County Shotgun Team was at the Georgia 4-H SAFE (Shooting Awareness Fun and Education) Competition May 27 and 28 at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah. In HOA (Highest Overall Average) the Senior team finished first, the Junior team Second. Senior team members are: Rylee Little, Zeb Dubois, Emalee Chapman, Brayden Lucas, Katie Thompson, Graham Cambell, Ben Howard, Presley Dubois, Stanley Shephard, Jackson White, Blaze Foskey, and Jesse Rees. Members of the Junior team are: Daniel Faulk, Jacob Skipper, Wyatt Mullis, Thomas Fisher, Caleb Floyd, Benji Fordham, Nathan Faulk, and Fisher Allen. Both are coached by Todd Kirkpatrick and Dennis Howard. With their first place finish, the senior team earned a berth in the National 4-H Competition June 25-30. To help raise funds for that trip, they will hold a benefit shoot June 17 in Helena, Ga. Team members are selling chances for a Beretta A400 20ga. Shotgun. Drawing for it will be held at the benefit shoot. For tickets or more information on the benefit shoot, call (478)230-7955.

Graduation morning in Cochran.



(Photos contributed.) It was graduation day in Cochran as both Bleckley County High School and Bleckley County Success Academy held graduation ceremonies. Three scholarships were awarded at the Success Academy graduation. Carmello Walker received the DGR's Scholarship. Chloe Stewart received the Mathis Funeral Home Scholarship and Christopher McCurry received the Danny and Ellen Mathis Scholarship. Congraduations and best wishes to all who received their diploma.

Pilot Club awards scholarships at annual picnic.


(Photos courtesy Pilot International Club of Cochran Facebook page.) Pilot International Club held their annual picnic last night at the home of Mike and Maureen Stoy. At the gathering, they awarded five $500 scholarships to local students. Funds came from the Lite-a-Lite fundraiser. BCHS Seniors receiving scholarships were: Ivy Wynne, Cole Garnto, Machaelah Steverson, Zack Bryant, and Lacy Kate Lucas (not pictured). Senior Ashlynne Corbin was the recipient of the Lydia Godwin Volunteer Scholarship. It's $1,500 and only two are awarded in the state.
