Restriping project along I-16 will create "rolling lane closures."

A restriping project along parts of I-16 will create “rolling lane closures” starting next week. The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Peek Pavement Marketing LLC has been contracted to restripe I-16 from about 1.5 miles west of the Georgia 96 interchange in Twiggs County to the Bleckley County line. According to a release, the new striping will high reflective qualities, improving safety of the corridor. Work will begin June 1 and take place seven days a week from 9 am to 9 pm. A lane closure will move with them, signs will be posted in advance of the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive with caution through the area for their own safety and that of the workers. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this summer.

Pickup parade for Success Academy caps, gowns moved to June 4.

The "pickup parade" for Bleckley County Success Academy seniors has been rescheduled for June 4 from 10-11 am due to a delay in receiving caps and gowns. Those participating are welcomed to decorate their cars. Seating assignments for graduation on June 13 will be drawn for during the parade.

High School Sports
Conditioning for high school softball to begin June 9.

The BCHS softball team will start conditioning for upcoming ninth graders and current students interested in playing for the 2020-21 team June 9 and on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month from 7 to 8:30 am at the high school softball field. Conditioning will consist of weights, running, and cardio. Anyone participating must have an updated physical uploaded to Dragonfly unless they received one through the school last year. Walmart recognizes associates who are also members of the Class of 2020.



(Contributed photos.) Cochran Walmart held a ceremony Thursday morning recognizing associates who are also members of the BCHS Class of 2020. The students worked while completing their senior years. Cochran Fire and Emergency Services helped by providing their ladder truck to display the American Flag during the event.
