Paying tribute to the Class of 2020.

With so much of their senior year erased because of the coronavirus pandemic, a group of senior parents organized the purchasing of signs to honor the BCHS Class of 2020. County commissioner Bob Brockman granted permission for the signs to be placed on the courthouse square. The signs were paid for via donations. Donations are still being accepted via the black mailbox located behind the courthouse.

City closes council meeting after originally stating it would be open to public. ***Updated***

In a Facebook post Monday afternoon, the City of Cochran stated that tonight's city council meeting would be open to the public since it's being held in the city auditorium. However, the post was subsequently deleted and another post was made stating the meeting would be closed. This is despite the fact Governor Kemp's order only precludes gatherings of ten or more people if six feet of distancing cannot be maintained. The meeting will a be streamed online at www.gotomeeting.com It can be viewed by entering the code 779-869-301. You can also listen to the meeting by calling 646-749-3112 and entering the same code.

BOE approves tentative budget, changes to school calendar. ***Corrected***

At a called meeting held this morning, the Bleckley County Board of Education approved the tentative FY21 budget and changes to the school calendar which reflected furlough days.

Early voting for June 9 primary to begin May 18.

Early voting for the June 9 general primary will begin May 18 and run through June 5. Saturday voting will take place May 30 from 9 am to 4 pm. Call (478)934-3200,extension 8, with any questions.

Georgia Dixie Youth Baseball cancels postseaso play.

Georgia Dixie Youth Baseball cancelled 2020 postseason play due to the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement was made by executive director David Gloyd in a Facebook post Sunday afternoon. The Cochran Bleckley Rec. Department still plans to have regular season baseball sanctioned by Dixie Youth. Dixie Youth Softball is a separate organization and has stated they will have postseason play.
