Parade helps senior citizens cut off due to COVID-19 reconnect with families.

(Photos courtesy BleckleyProgress.com contributor.) Because of COVID-19, residents at Bryant Health and Rehab as well as At Home Senior Living have been isolated from family members, visits separated by a glass window. In an effort to lift residents spirits, they were treated to a parade Friday. They were brought outside, then were treated to streams of cars going through the parking lot of each facility to wave and say hi to their loved ones. Traffic was directed by Cochran Police, Bleckley County Sheriff’s Department, as well as Cochran Fire and Emergency Services.

Donations sought for signs on courthouse square that will honor BCHS seniors.

With COVID-19 cancelling school and cutting short the year for this year’s BCHS seniors, a group of senior parents are trying to honor the class of 2020. They’re purchasing signs which Commissioner Bob Brockman has said can be placed on the courthouse lawn for a couple of weeks. Donations are sought to help pay for the signs. They can be left in the black mailbox behind the courthouse next to the handicap parking area. You can also contact Paige Baggs, (478)230-2221, to donate or for more information.

Local church to hold in-person Sunday morning service. ***Updated***

As part of his executive orders opening the state on Monday, Governor Brian Kemp authorized churches to be able to hold in-person services starting this Sunday if they adhere to social distancing guidelines. While many churches will remain closed through the end of the month, Bethany Baptist Church will hold in-person service Sunday morning only at 11 am. Chairs will be spaced out, ushers will be holding the collection plate as opposed to passing it around. Older members are being asked to watch the service online. The service is for church members only. Bethany is inviting the public to attend services May 3 at 11 am.
