City, county, update State of Emergency declaration.

The City of Cochran and Bleckley County have updated the State of Emergency declared Tuesday. In a resolution posted on the city's Facebook page yesterday, it declares a public health state of emergency until April 15. Gatherings of ten or more people on property owned by the city or county are banned but doesn't prevent people from using designated pedestrian areas as long as there are no gatherings. Businesses such as gyms and nail salons are ordered closed. It closes restaurant dining rooms but does allow for drive through, carryout, or delivery services. Public and private gatherings outside houses are banned though it doesn't prohibit gatherings of people conducting "essential" business as designated by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, designated by the governor as "critical infrastructure", or the provision of medical and health services. It restates the previously announced curfew and also re-states that utility services will not be disconnected during the state of emergency.

Now therefore, we do hereby proclaim April 1, 2020, as "CENSUS DAY" in the City of Cochran and Bleckley County, Georgia, and recognize the importance of the 2020 Census and pledge full support to achieving a complete and accurate Census Count."

Bleckley FFA plant sale does well despite difficult circumstances.

Though school was out due to the COVID-19 shutdown, Bleckley FFA held their annual plant sale Tuesday in the greenhouse. Traffic was described as “steady” throughout the day and FFA faculty members in attendance were pleased with the sale despite the adverse conditions. They added one of the reasons why they had plants left was because of ordering an extra amount of ferns. The group plans to hold a half off sale to get rid of remaining stock in the future.

In declarations posted on the Bleckley County Emergency Management Agency Facebook page, both include a curfew from 10 pm to 6 am.
