Promise of Hope sporting clays tournament postponed.

Promise of Hope announced the second annual Aim For Hope sporting clays tournament benefiting the men's facility in Cochran has been postponed due to social distancing guidelines set by the CDC regarding COVID-19. According to an email, the event will be rescheduled when "recommended to do so." The gun raffle for an AR-15 rifle also benefiting the men's facility is ongoing with the winner to be drawn for April 3. Tickets can be purchased by calling (478)934-0774.

City Hall, police department to be closed to public starting tomorrow.

The City of Cochran announced Monday afternoon that access to both city hall and the police department would be restricted to employees only starting tomorrow until further notice due to the coronavirus emergency. In an announcement posted both on the city's website and Facebook page, it stated doors to both city hall and police department lobby will be locked. Residents are asked to utilize the outside drop box or make payments online as well as use phone or email for any concerns. Governor's order to keep churches closed.

While many local churches had already began offering online services due to the coronavirus outbreak, an executive order issued by Governor Brian Kemp Monday afternoon which bans gatherings of ten or more people unless the required six feet of social distancing can be maintained through April 6 will keep local churches closed. Parishioners should contact their local churches to find out specific plan for worship going forward.

City suspending utility cutoffs for remainder of month.

The City of Cochran announced Friday that utility (water, gas) cutoffs were being suspended for the remainder of March due to cleaning precautions involving coronavirus. A Facebook post announcing the move urges citizens to still pay in order to avoid falling behind. It also asks those feverish or otherwise sick to not enter city hall and contact the city via email or phone if needing assistance.
